The Fatwa and Sharia Research Sector at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has stated that individuals convicted of the crime of insulting God and the prophets may have their political rights restored based on the assessment of relevant authorities if they sincerely repent and retract their offense both in writing and orally.
This response comes following a query from the Governmental Parliamentary Coordinating Committee regarding whether there are legal grounds for rehabilitating those convicted of insulting God and the prophets, as specified in Article 17 of the draft law for electing members of the National Assembly, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The National Assembly is scheduled to vote on this matter during the second deliberation tomorrow.
Upon reviewing the governmental request presented by the Minister of Awqaf’s office to the Fatwa Committee, the Fatwa Sector clarified that if the offender willingly repents before the court, genuinely expresses remorse and regret for their actions, repents verbally and in writing, and commits not to repeat the offense in the future, then there is no objection to restoring their rights.
The extent of these rights will be determined by the competent authorities, and ultimately, God Almighty knows best.
