Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs Dr. Maryam Al-Azmi stressed the need to develop a targeted media plan to spread awareness about domestic violence and the protection of women’s and children’s rights. She made the statement after a meeting of the Family Awareness and Counseling Team of the Council, which she chairs, with the membership of the concerned authorities in the country, Alrai Media reported.

In addition, Al-Azmi expressed the team’s aspiration to discuss ways of cooperation with civil society institutions to achieve the principle of community partnership and benefit all segments of society. She added that one of the team’s most important functions is preparing awareness programs for the implementation of the law regarding protection from domestic violence and highlighting it on social and digital media. The team also prepares training programs that focus on the importance of family cohesion and its role in preserving society. At the meeting, the team discussed the proposals submitted by the family’s public benefit associations and presented the proposal from the Innovation and Invention Association.

Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, a member of the teaching staff at Kuwait University and a member of the awareness and counseling team, confirmed that the university is fully prepared to start awareness programs and introduce the law regarding the protection from domestic violence for university students. The Supreme Council for the Family, which follows the Council of Ministers and includes in its membership the ministries of the state for women’s affairs, childhood and health, and the state for youth affairs and education, is also working to raise awareness about the law.
