Facebook has admitted its failure to activate the measures to combat the abusive practices against Filipinas who complained through its platform and ‘Instagram’ about violation of their rights, reports Al Rai daily.

Recent leaks revealed that the file of violations of the rights of maids in Kuwait and in other Gulf and Arab countries was a crisis that began between the US companies ‘Apple’ and ‘Facebook’ about two years ago, a crisis due to the threat by Apple to delete its Facebook and Instagram applications from the global online Apple store.

The Al-Rai daily said, the leaks obtained by the Associated Press news agency are internal Facebook documents, which revealed that the company admitted its failure in 2019 to implementing appropriate control measures against abusive practices against Filipino domestic workers. They complained through the two social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) that they were subjected to these practices at the hands of their employers.

The leaks revealed that this internal acknowledgment on the part of Facebook was in 2019 after Apple threatened it that it would delete the two world-famous applications from its ‘App Store’ because of its fears and concern over “their use as channels for buying and selling maids in Middle Eastern countries.

The daily said, the Associated Press reported that the leaks included a number of Gulf and Middle Eastern countries, citing cases of human trafficking and violations against Filipina maids in Kuwait, it indicated that Facebook publicly pledged at the time that it would take measures to combat these practices through its platforms. On the basis of this pledge, Apple did not implement its threat, and kept the Facebook and Instagram applications in the App Store.

However, it seems that this crisis between the two American technology giants is likely to return soon to the surface because high-ranking officials in Apple have told the Associated Press that they believe that Facebook has not implemented its pledge sufficiently so far. In light of this development, the coming weeks will result in whether or not Apple will implement its threat against Facebook.
