The head of the Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al-Bahr Eye Center and the head of the Council of Eye Departments in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al-Baghli, said celebrations of national holidays is a legitimate right for everyone, but the manifestations of the celebration should not pose a threat to the health of any person, especially with the continued phenomenon of throwing water-filled balloons at vehicles and pedestrians on some internal and main roads, despite the recent increase in health awareness campaigns that have been organized to protect the lives of among citizens and residents.

Al-Baghli told “Al-Qabas” that some people use water pistols, water sprayers and balloons filled with water and throw them at others, specifically in the face and eye area, that sometimes cause very serious injuries and have serious consequences, pointing to the need to legalize such manifestations, which threaten the health of the individual.

Al-Baghli pointed out that during the celebrations of the National and Liberation Day on Saturday and Sunday, the Accidents Department of the Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al-Bahr Eye Center received about 92 cases, including 75 injuries that consisted of scratches or damage to the cornea, 6 hits in the eye area, a case of a cut wound to the eyelid, and a case of a blow around the eye that led to fracture towards the eye.

He added, there are two cases of internal bleeding in the eye, and one case of bleeding and an external wound in the eye, as well as 6 cases of injuries who said that their injuries were caused by a water-balloon hit by revellers during the celebrations, noting that the number of injuries during the national holidays this year is less than the previous years that preceded the Corona pandemic.

He added that it is the result of the departure of a large number of citizens outside the country, and the health requirements followed so far, in addition to raising health awareness among large segments of society.
