The air transport market, after the decision to extend the mid-year vacation from the 13th of this month until the 5th of next March, saw a flurry of activity to book tickets for travel abroad.
Sources in the tourism and travel sector told Al-Qabas there is an increasing demand for travel, especially by teachers after the decision to extend the holidays. Among the most favored destinations are Cairo, Turkey, and Dubai.
The sources indicated that the extension of the holidays caused confusion in the advance booking, as many offices witnessed calls from travelers asking for the reservation dates to be extended until the start of the second semester. However, the ticket prices are still reasonable during the current period, but return tickets are experiencing difficulties due to the limited availability of seats.
The sources indicated ticket prices on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of next month will witness a significant increase, as the price of tickets for some travel destinations, especially Cairo, will reach 300 dinars, both ways.
Reliable sources said some airlines have sent a request to the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation for additional flights during the period preceding the start of the second semester to facilitate the return of passengers.
The sources praised the tendency of the agencies operating at the Kuwait International Airport to cancel the PCR requirement for incoming passengers, indicating this procedure had burdened families who spend vacations abroad.
