The Al-Shall report stated that the latest population and employment statistics issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information indicate that the total population in Kuwait has reached 4.63 million as of end of June 2021, and the population census recorded in half a year a decline of about 0.9% compared to the end of 2020 (-1.8% expected annual rate).

The total population declined -2.2% in 2020, compared to a growth of about 3.3%, 2.7% and 2.0% in 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively, and the absolute decline during half a year was about 43,000 people, and the absolute decline for the year was 2020 as a whole was about 105,700, the Al-Rai daily said quoting sources.

The Kuwaiti population increased during the first half of 2021 by about 13,300 thousand people, with a growth rate of about 0.9%, bringing their total number to about 1.47 million people. The number of Kuwaiti females, which is about 751.6 thousand, exceeds the number of males, which is 721.7 thousand.

The number of non-Kuwaiti residents slightly decreased by about 56.3 thousand people, a rate of approximately -1.8%, bringing the total number to about 3.15 million people, and at a compound annual growth rate during 2010 until June 2021 to about 2.5%.

The total number of workers in Kuwait reached 2.8 million, or about 60.5% of the total population, while the percentage for Kuwaitis is about 30.9% of the total Kuwaiti population; the percentage of non-Kuwaiti workers out of the total non-Kuwaiti population is about 74.2%. The percentage of Kuwaiti workers rose from about 15.8% in December 2020 to about 16.3% in June 2021, and the percentage of Kuwaiti female employees rose slightly to about 49.8% at the end of the first six months of this year, after it was at 49.5% at the end of last year.
