Interior Minister Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali confirmed that the Ministry of Interior “deported the expatriates who were caught photographing documents of judicial files and selling them on dates of 13, 15 and 17 January, at their own expense, Al Qabas reported.

This was to ensure the alleged perpetrators are not exploiting their job positions or evading any legal procedures against them through loopholes, administrative or legal, pointing out that their deportation was done in the public interest and to act as a deterrence measure for others thinking of such actions.

In his response to a parliamentary question by MP Hisham Al-Saleh, Al-Ali added that the administrative deportation procedures do not have any negative effects on the penalties mentioned for any crime.

Al-Ali added that Article 16 of Decree 17/1959 regarding the residency of foreigners “included cases of deportation of foreigners, and stipulated that the head of the police and public security departments may issue a written order to deport any foreigner, even if he has a residence permit, unless he is sentenced and the court recommended in its ruling that he be deported, or if he does not have an apparent means of living, or if the head of the police and public security departments deems that his removal is in the public interest, public security, or public morals.
