The spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad announced that the average occupancy rate of patients in intensive care reached its peak in recent months, specifically the end of last March, followed by a decline, but it returned to continue to rise in the second week of April, indicating that the average occupancy rate is now 36.8%, compared to 33.3% a week ago, Al Rai daily reported.

He explained that the increase in the average care occupancy rates within a week amounted to 3.5 percent, indicating that it is still within the global range.

In a press conference held on 19 April to provide information about the health situation, Al-Sanad pointed out that the percentage of expats in the total number of confirmed daily cases increased to about 55 to 60 percent of the total daily cases.

With regard to active cases, Al-Sanad said that during the month of March, the index was in a state of stability, followed by a slight increase after mid-April, as the active cases receiving treatment exceeded about 15,000 cases.

Regarding the ratio of infections to swabs, he explained that there was a relative stability after the second half of last March, however, in the past few days there was a slight increase, indicating that the ratio of infections to swabs is still in the high range.

Highlighting the spread of daily infections in the governorates, Dr. Al-Sanad revealed that the highest recorded daily infections within a month were detected in Hawalli Governorate, followed by Ahmadi, Farwaniya, Jahra, and finally the Capital.

Regarding the latest developments in the vaccination campaign, he stressed that it is continuing and witnessing a great turnout from all sections of society, and that in the last period there has been an increased focus on the need to vaccinate teachers in the education sector.

He also noted about 74.3 percent of the total registered employees of the Ministry of Education had been vaccinated against the Coronavirus, with more than 66,518 people, calling on all teachers to take the vaccine to protect themselves and those around them.

He explained that workers in 41 Co-ops in all governorates received the vaccine, with the number reaching 16,322, among them workers in commercial businesses of the associations, in addition to 9406 workers in public utilities and services, and 3349 workers in central markets, with a total of 29077.

He pointed out that the general epidemiological indicators are increasing slightly, saying, “We still need to take caution in all our daily activities especially during this holy month, where gatherings and social functions are a regular occurrence.”

He stressed the need to be wary of large, unsafe gatherings, and to take into account all preventive measures in Mosques, stressing that “the epidemic is not over yet and we have to end Ramadan this year in a better condition than the situation we were before Ramadan.”
