Senior officials at the Vehicle Licensing Section have been instructed to review an integrated study about linking the expiry date of a driving license issued for an expatriate with the residency validity.

Acting Assistant-Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major-General Jamal Al-Sayegh has made this review request to the officials, following increased congestion witnessed at traffic departments in all six governorates of Kuwait, due to the current policy of expatriates having to renew their licenses annually.

Some licensing authority officials have also recommended that driving licenses to expatriates should be issued for a five-year period and linked to the expiry of their residences. Expiry of residences would entail an automatic cancellation of the driving licenses.
