European Union High Representative Josep Borrell Monday said the Gulf region is an important one and the EU has to pay more attention to this region. “Another important thing – although not a hot topic but an important one – is the meeting with the Gulf (Cooperation Council),” he told reporters ahead of a formal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels today.

“We are going to have it here. I will co-chair with the Saudi Foreign Minister (Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud) a meeting with the countries of the Gulf,” he said. “The Gulf requires more and more attention not because now we want to have more gas from the Gulf. We want to have more gas from the Gulf but it is a much more important region and we have to pay more attention to it,” he added.

The EU-GCC foreign ministerial will be held later today. Meanwhile, the EU foreign ministers will discuss the situation in Ukraine and Bosnia- Herzegovina said, Borrell. They will hold an informal exchange with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, he noted.

“The Ministers will discuss with him how to continue structuring our support, thinking about our answer, and giving all assurances in order to make him sure that we will continue supporting Ukraine at the most critical moment if this happens,” he said. “Do not dismiss the importance of what is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The nationalist and separatist rhetoric is increasing in Bosnia and Herzegovina and jeopardizing the stability and even the integrity of the country,” he added.
