The Ethiopian Embassy in the State of Kuwait held an event on 18 October in the Embassy compound to celebrate Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Nobel Peace Prize. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Abdulfatah Abdulahi, Special Envoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the State of Kuwait congratulated all Ethiopians in this great news and urged them to work together for the development of their country.

Noting that the award is not only for the Ethiopian people but also for the whole African nations, he inspired the participants to work hard and be proud of the award.  ‘‘The award recognized Abiy’s efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular, his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea” he added.

Within a short period of time, after he became Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy lifted the state of emergency, ordered the release of thousands of prisoners, allowed exiled dissidents to return home and unblocked hundreds of websites and TV channels to widen the democratic space in the country.  The ambassador also mentioned the efforts of the Prime Minister in ensuring increased women’s political participation by making his cabinet members 50 percent women.

On the occasion, all staff members and Ethiopian Community in Kuwait including religious leaders expressed their happiness and said that it is good news to rejoice, and urged all Ethiopians to support their leader.
