Bassam Al-Shammari who specializes in domestic labor affairs, said allowing the recruitment of Ethiopian workers will balance the domestic market and solve the problems of the shortage of labor the country is currently experiencing, especially since hiring costs and salaries of Ethiopians are low compared to other nationalities.
Al-Shammari, revealed the resumption of the Kuwaiti-Ethiopian discussions regarding the completion of the memorandum of understanding regulating the controls for the recruitment of domestic workers from Addis Ababa is expected to happen sooner than later, reports a local Arabic daily.
He pointed out an Ethiopian delegation is expected to visit Kuwait soon (in mid-May), to complete the formalities with the concerned government agencies and iron out all details and formalities concerning the MoU.
Al-Shammari explained this step will open a new market for the recruitment of domestic workers to fill the acute shortage that Kuwait is currently suffering from, and added, many local offices are waiting for the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two sides and conclude the initial recruitment contracts with their counterparts in Addis Ababa.
Al-Shammari called on the Public Authority for Manpower to expand the definition of its employees, office owners and employers to the provisions of the new executive regulations of Law (68/2015) issued regarding domestic workers, which have been widely accepted and approved by recruitment offices.
