The Environment Public Authority is considering embarking on a project to collect empty plastic water bottles using machines on an experimental basis as well as containers made of glass and metal, in exchange for discount coupons for use in cooperative societies that the consumer obtains if he inserts these bottles into the machine.
According to informed sources, the authority will coordinate with cooperative societies to implement this step, which would reduce pollution caused by empty plastic and metal bottles that cause severe environmental damage to land and sea.
This step comes among other steps taken by the authority to reduce the effects of pollution left by those bottles, including the “Plastic Collection and Recycling” competition that it launched several months ago, in which hundreds participated and were able to collect thousands of tons of plastic bottles that were delivered to a private company for recycling.
The first contestants received cash prizes. The authority is focusing its efforts on these bottles, as they are among the most pollutants affecting the environment, as part of the package aimed at converting waste into energy, and the work has begun in coordination with various government agencies.
