The Environment Public Authority and the Kuwait Oil Company held their second periodic meeting on Monday to recommend an urgent electronic link to the development projects program, to issue environmental approvals for KOC projects electronically and send periodic reports related to environmental aspects. Deputy Director General of Environmental Monitoring Affairs Sector, Samira Al-Kandari, told the local paper that the meeting discussed the advisory study of earthquakes and the phenomenon’s relationship to oil production, as well as efforts in combating oil pollution and KOC’s role in the issue.

Al-Kandari said that the meeting also discussed the environmental requirements for the registration of companies qualified for this activity, the implementation of Article 16 of the Environmental Protection Law, and the registration of companies transporting hazardous waste through the company’s operations and their approval by the authority in implementing Resolution No. 11 of 2022 issued in the Official Gazette of Kuwait on Monday.

In addition, the official added that the parties tackled the report on the quantities of gas that was burned based on the gas requirements and regulations, as well as KOC’s strategy and waste management plan, the extension of natural gas to electric power generation and water desalination plants, and the disposal of radioactive waste used in operations.

Moreover, the meeting recommended that the KOC present its projects to the authority to improve the environmental situation in southern Kuwait, and implement the decisions of the Council of Ministers and the Supreme Council for the Environment regarding the matter.
