The Public Relations and Media Department of the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD) stated that after a report was received by the Central Operations Department this morning, that an unidentified employee working for a company when a cable snapped and the elevator cabin fell from the first floor into the elevator pit in the basement of the house under construction in Qadisiya.
The Al-Rai daily added firemen rushed to the site and lifted the cabin using rescue equipment but could do nothing to save the man who was crushed to death.
The remains of the man have been handed over to Forensics. The incident is being investigated.
