The Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Jassim Al-Ostad, has reassured that the ministry will meet the electricity production needs next year. However, he was quick to say he fears the ministry could face a challenge in the summer of 2025 if new projects are not implemented to cover the country’s needs, in light of urban expansion and population increase.

The minister told Kuwait TV Sunday evening, that “the Ministry is trying to push for the implementation of renewable energy projects and activate the memorandum of understanding with China, as the implementation of such projects is faster than traditional fuel operated power stations,” pointing out that there is a tendency to complete the remaining stages of the Al-Shaqaya project with the Chinese side, reports Al-Rai daily.

He indicated that there is an intention to double the strategic water reserve in the coming years by implementing new projects to meet the country’s needs, especially in emergency situations. He said a Kuwaiti individual is classified as the biggest water consumer compared to other countries, at a rate of 100 liters per day, and said the ministry favors rationalization of this commodity to reduce consumption.

He pointed out that the Ministry succeeded in overcoming the challenges of last summer, thanks to the efforts of its officials and all workers in its various sectors, who maintained the operating status compared to consumption rates.

Speaking of the Gulf electrical interconnection project, he termed it as one of the most successful at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and the project is witnessing development for the better and its economic feasibility has become greater.

He stated that the goal of implementing the Gulf electrical interconnection project is to maintain the stability of member states’ networks and benefit from energy exchange and purchasing operations, expecting that the electrical capacity that will be provided to member states will increase.

Al-Ostad expects Kuwait to produce 15 percent of renewable energy out of its total electricity production by the year 2030, pointing out the ministry’s efforts to implement the stages of the Al-Shaqaya project with a capacity of 4,500 megawatts.

The Minister touched on the electronic services provided by the Ministry to its clients using artificial intelligence.
