Last Thursday, the Ministry of Electricity and Water began installing smart meters in the Sulaibiya factories, which is the third industrial area to be provided with smart meters after the Shuaiba and Sabhan factories.

The Director of the Contracts Follow-up Department, Head of the Smart Meters Installation Team at the Ministry, Eng. Mallouh Al-Ajmi, said the ministry has so far replaced 122,584 counters, of which 120,000 are in the investment and commercial sectors, and 1,900 are in the private housing sector, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Ajmi added, on the sidelines of the team’s installation of the meters in the Sulaibiya area, that the investment meters have already been installed in the Hawalli and Farwaniya governorates and some areas of the Ahmadi governorate.

He explained that the ministry then moved to industrial activity, and the beginning was in the Shuaiba area, which includes the largest number of factories, and then the Sabhan industrial area, and 496 smart meters were installed in about 211 factories in the two regions, before starting work in Sulaibiya, pointing out that the next in line is the Shuwaikh Industrial area.

He explained that the new tender for 700,000 smart meters – about 500,000 electricity meters and 200,000 water meters — will be closed on the 22nd of this month.
