Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Jassim Al-Ustad, has stressed on the ongoing commitment to increase the number of power stations and implement additional electrical initiatives to meet the escalating demand given the urban expansion.

During a press conference, he underscored that there are no plans for increasing electricity and water tariffs in private residences and highlighted that the ministry is actively exploring diverse options to address the rising electricity demand, one of which is sourcing from the Gulf network in the upcoming year, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Ustad also mentioned an upcoming meeting with the Partnership Authority, scheduled for next week. The meeting will focus on discussions about pre-qualifying companies for the second and third northern Az-Zour stations, along with the Al-Khairan thermal stations.

He further emphasized the importance of enhancing the skills and capabilities of Kuwaiti employees and administrators and commended the endeavors of the Ministry’s staff across its various divisions, ensuring continuous access to electricity for all customers.

The Minister noted that a dedicated committee of technicians and experts is actively assessing various alternatives to fulfill the electricity demand, while at the same time stressing the significance of optimizing consumption and highlighted that purchasing from the Gulf network is among the potential solutions for the upcoming year.

Regarding energy procurement from individuals, Al-Ustad revealed that the project’s final stages are being reached. This initiative involves procuring energy generated from renewable energy projects on rooftops. He encouraged eligible citizens with suitable spaces to apply for the project once the operational guidelines are released.

He clarified that the cost savings from national grid electricity consumption would be determined by the area utilized for installing the photovoltaic panel system.

He highlighted five steps to improve services:

— Keeping pace with the increasing demand for electricity
— Seeking to fill vacant positions
— Studying more electrical alternatives
— Completion of the smart meters system project
— Implementation of more renewable energy projects
