The CEO of the largest cigarette production company in Egypt estimated that the percentage of smokers in the country is about 18 percent of the Egyptian people.

Hani Aman, CEO of the Eastern Company for Tobacco, said in a television interview with the “Paper and Pen” program broadcast on the “Ten” satellite channel that 18 percent of Egyptians smoke cigarettes, indicating that they consume about 100 billion cigarettes annually, reports Al-Rai daily.

He added that the company produces 70 billion cigarettes a year, and its share in the Egyptian market ranges between 70 to 75 percent, and it accounts for about 12 to 13 percent of smokers.

And Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper indicates that with this rate (18 percent), Egypt has more than 19 million smokers, given that its population is 105 million.

The statements of the head of “Al-Sharqiya Tobacco” coincided with the exceptional rise in all cigarette prices in Egypt, and the variation in the selling price from one place to another without announcing a specific reason justifying that crisis.
