Egypt's Minister of Health Hala Zayed during the news conference

It is expected that Egypt will produce two million doses of anti coronavirus vaccine by the end of next June, Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed said on Sunday.

Zayed made the statement during a news conference on reviewing the readiness of the country’s Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines to start the manufacturing of “Sinopharm” vaccine in Egypt. She underlined the readiness of the company to produce the vaccine, as Egypt will receive the first phase of raw materials of manufacturing Sinopharm as of May 18 to begin the production process.

Manufacturing two million doses of the vaccine is expected by the end of June and the doses will be subjected to analysis to make sure of their “safety and efficacy”, the minister said, anticipating to manufacture about 40 million doses in the first year of signing the deal. Zayed has revealed that Egypt would sign a partnership with Russia to manufacture the “Sputnik” vaccine.

She pointed to an increase in coronavirus infections, expecting continued growing cases in the next period, concurrently the Eid al-Fitr holidays and other occasions. She stressed that no new strains of the virus have been reported in Egypt.
