Contrary to the trend initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2018 to ensure the quality of degrees and reduce the number of accredited Egyptian universities to only 7, two educational institutions recently organized an exhibition to promote 19 private Egyptian universities, none of which are on the list of accredited universities in the country.

However, sources in the Ministry of Higher Education indicated that the exhibition has nothing to do with the ministry, adding that promoting unaccredited universities in the country may be misleading to students, whether Kuwaitis or even non-Kuwaitis, stressing that for Kuwaitis, the admission of any Kuwaiti student to an unaccredited university will not be approved by the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Control. On the other hand, any certificate obtained by a non-Kuwaiti from a university not included in the accreditation lists will not be recognized, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The sources indicated that the exhibition was held over the past days, and was promoted by two educational institutions operating in Kuwait, and some participating Egyptian universities through their accounts on social networks, calling on students to register.

The Minister of Education and former Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Hamid Al-Azmi had issued a decision in October 2018 to accredit 7 Egyptian universities, which are the Cairo University, Alexandria University, Ain Shams University, Mansoura University, Assiut University, Al-Azhar University and the American University in Cairo, down from 30 universities in the past, in an effort to control quality.
