The Ministry of Education announced the termination of 1,815 male and female expatriate teachers, and 209 heads of departments at the end of the current academic year. 

The official spokesman of the Ministry Ahmed Al-Wahida, explained that this decision comes in line with the government’s direction and the state’s plan to implement the policy of replacing expatriates with Kuwait in accordance with the Kuwaiti constitution, which stipulates in Article 26 that the citizen has the right to public office, and based on Civil Service Council Resolution No. 11 of 2017 regarding the rules and procedures of “Kuwaitization” of government jobs, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Wahida indicated that the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad Al-Adwani, directed the necessity of applying the principle of proportionality between educational regions and stages according to different data, in implementing the replacement of expatriates teachers and other professions with the exception of children of Kuwaiti women who are married to non-Kuwaiti men, bedoun and Gulf nationals, and appointing citizens in the specializations in which they are available in order to preserve the needs of the educational regions, and not to prejudice their budgets, which will reflect positively on the interest of the educational process and the stability of the educational field, and will also contribute to beating unemployment rates. 

The Kuwaitization in male disciplines will include 6 majors — Islamic education by 260 teachers over two years, history 52 teachers, psychology and sociology 4 teachers, computer 25 teachers and social studies 59 teachers, while Kuwaitization for females is 14 majors, including Islamic education by 109 teachers, Arabic language 530 female teachers, English language 291, social studies 3, history 20, geography 79, psychology and sociology one each, science 98, biology 37, geology 18, art education 47, decoration 39, and computer 92 female teachers.
