An official report estimated the losses incurred by Turkey as a result of the earthquakes that struck the south of the country in February, at about two trillion Turkish liras (about $105.2 billion).

The report, announced by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and prepared by the Presidency’s Strategy and Budget Department, predicted that the financial burden resulting from catastrophic earthquakes could reach about 9 percent of the gross national income for the year 2023.

The study indicated that the expenditures of support that were provided to the earthquake zone amounted to 18.5 billion dollars from the national income.

Housing losses caused by the earthquakes hit the Turkish economy by 54.9 percent, and the monetary value of those losses amounted to 1.07 trillion liras (about 56.4 billion dollars).

The second largest cause of losses was the destruction of public infrastructure and service buildings, which cost approximatley 242.5 billion pounds (about $12.7 billion).
