The Ministry of Health confirmed that Kuwait ranks ninth in the world in the rate of breast cancer among women. The head of the radiology department at Al-Adan Hospital, Dr. Latifa Al-Kandari said as part of the National Program for Early Detection of Breast Cancer, the department has conducted 20,483 mammograms in various health centers and hospitals from 2014 to 2019, and the 233 cases of breast cancer that were discovered were referred to breast oncologists.
Al-Kandari explained the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program is a national and preventive health program that aims to early detection of breast tumors, noting that most of the cases discovered were in the first and second stages, reports a local Arabic daily.
She stated most cases of breast cancer did not show any symptoms before the mammogram, and did not feel any pain, secretions, adding that in 2014 twenty-six cases were detected and the number increased to 60 in 2015 which began to decrease in 2019 to 46.
She appeals to all women to undergo examination, saying mammogram centers are open in hospitals and health centers throughout the year to help women avoid complications in future.
