Local customs sources looks at the decision to prevent the entry of food for personal use with travelers coming from Syria, Lebanon and Iraq under the pretext of recommendations related to cholera in affected countries, as ‘double standard policy’ since food is allowed to enter in commercial quantities from those countries, which puts the customs authorities in an embarrassment contrasting situation.

The sources told Al-Jarida that the General Administration of Customs has addressed the Ministry of Health regarding this unjustified “duplication”, but has not received any response from it, pointing out that “Customs” is working to follow up on this file until the ban is lifted within the next few days, reports Al-Jarida daily.

For his part, the Director General of Customs Suleiman Al-Fahd said preventing the entry of food for personal use with travelers coming from the three countries is based on a letter that the administration received from the Health Ministry on Oct 24, 2022.

He explained food imported from the three countries is checked by the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition to ensure its safety in the best interests of consumers.
