Indians ranked first, Philippines second

Official statistics revealed that domestic workers in Kuwait constitute more than 26 percent of the total workforce, with their numbers reaching 732,000 out of 2.8 million, which are the total number of expat workers presently working in Kuwait, Al Rai daily reported.

Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) released statistics that showed 732,000 expats are employed in Kuwait by the end of last year, and the number decreased in April to about 636,000, which shows the numbers dropped in 4 months by about 96,000.

The number of domestic workers divided by nationality are as follows: Indians rank first with the largest number of domestic workers, constituting about 47 percent of the total number of domestic workers employed in Kuwait, equivalent to 343,335 male and female workers, of whom 71 percent are males, and 29 percent are females.

In second place, are Filipinos, at 21.5 percent, which are 157,602 males and female workers, of whom 0.6 percent are males, while the percentage of females is 99.4 percent.

With more than 500,000 workers, the Indian and Filipino communities account for 68.5 percent of the domestic labor market in Kuwait.

Following them, Bangladeshi domestic workers come in third place, with a rate of 11.9 percent, with 86,830 workers, separated into 98.9 percent males and 1.1 percent females.

In fourth place, Sri Lankan nationality with 11.6 percent of the total, which means 84,642 male and female workers, of whom 21.7 percent are males, and 78.3 percent are females.

Coming in fifth, the Ethiopian employment rate of 2.5 percent, equivalent to 18,306 male and female workers, of whom 94.1 percent are females, and 5.9 percent are males.

In sixth place, domestic workers of Nepalese nationality, at a rate of 2.2 percent, with 16,378 male and female workers, of whom 7.1 percent are males, and 92.9 percent females.

In seventh place, employees from the Ivory Coast, accounting for 0.4 percent of domestic workers, with 3,244 male and female workers, followed by Indonesia (0.4 percent with 2,794 male and female workers), and Madagascar (0.4 percent with 2,604 male and female workers), and finally, Benin (0.3 percent with 2,324 male and female workers).

Other nationalities account for 1.9 percent of domestic workers, with about 14,145 male and female workers, of whom women constitute 45.2 percent, and men 54.8 percent.
