On the occasion of upcoming Christmas celebrations, over 300 distressed Filipino workers in Kuwait, including those in jail, have received US$100 (PHP5,000) as a Christmas gift from Philippines President  Rodrigo Duterte.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the President sent his “love and care” to Filipinos in Kuwait through the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (Oumwa).

The presidential gift was handed over to the recipients between 26 and 28 of November, from the Philippine Embassy’s halfway shelters set up in Kuwait and from the Kuwaiti prisons, including the Sulaibiya Central Jail.

The Christmas gift program for distressed Filipinos, is the first such project undertaken by the embassy since 2016 and was funded by the P1-billion Assistance to National Fund of the DFA for 2019.
