The Communications Commission Authority confirmed that the submarine cable ‘Falcon’ that was snapped at dawn last Friday, will soon be restored to its full capacity in cooperation with the Internet service providers companies, through other international routes and cables, and things are expected to return to normal.
The authority said in a press statement, Thursday, the report of the “GCX” company that owns the cable stated that the double-cut took place at a distance of 183 km from the city of Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman towards Iran, while the other cut was 50 km from Muscat towards the emirate of Dubai, in addition to one of the stations which threw Yemen out of service as a result of military operations.
The sources indicated the company that owns the cable had undertaken the repair procedures, and the time period for the repair will be determined after the ship arrives at the site of the cut, indicating that the cuts took place outside the Arabian Gulf region towards Europe, and the movement of the communication between the GCC countries within the Arabian Gulf was not affected.
The authority stated that it has opened the door for investors since March 2021 to apply for licenses for the establishment of new international land and sea cables that are added to the existing cables and is working on optimal distribution of international telecommunications traffic across multiple paths to reduce the impact of services provided to users in the event of a disruption of one of the paths.
