A number of citizens working in the private oil sector protested in front of the Ministry of Oil in Shuwaikh, demanding implementation of Labor Law No. 28/1969.

A local Arabic daily quoting oil sources said about 14,000 Kuwaitis work in the private oil companies and said it is important that the government pay attention to their demands to bring them on par with their counterparts in the government oil sector.

The head of the volunteer team for workers in the private oil sector, Salem Al-Ajmi, said, “The Kuwaitis in the private oil sector work with contractors and these employees work in difficult conditions and dangerous jobs and face danger just like their colleagues in the government sector, but unfortunately there is neglect by the oil leadership in applying and activating the Law 28/1969, which equates them with their colleagues in the government sector.

He added, “Our peaceful protest comes to deliver a message to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister.”
