The delay in issuing 250,000 civil cards for expatriates is reportedly cause by the ‘mafia’ whose members are tampering with the Public Authority for Civil Information, and deliberately, at the behest of one of the authority’s officials, delaying issuing the Civil IDs for expatriates in order to blackmail them, and to obtain about 50 dinars each to facilitate their issuance, at a time when citizens and their servants’ cards are issued in a matter of a few days.
This happens at a time when in the twenty-first century technology has moved at a fast pace but corruption continues unabated in spite of demands from everyone to to eradicate corruption, while Al-Jarida learned from its sources that the mastermind of that mafia manages a group of securitymen at the PACI building who negotiate with the person concerned to obtain a bribe from him and deliver it to the official, indicating that he is aware of the extent of the weakness of this category, and for this he is keen to provide ID cards for citizens and their servants without delay to keep the issue under control.
The sources added the waiting period for expatriates families to receive their cards exceeds 9 months from the date of paying the service fees, while the residencies of others have expired without they receiving their ID cards despite paying the 5 dinars fees under the pretext the employees work under pressure which forces the applicant to pay bribe.
The sources stated that the spark of the idea of delay and exploitation of crises started with the beginning of the “Corona” crisis, which seems to have not ended yet at PACI despite the presence of large quantities of cards ready for printing, noting that the authority sent delegations to visit Poland, the headquarters of the parent company, to obtain the raw material. However, waiting is still the master of the situation, and extortion of expatriates is still ongoing undisturbed.
