Ministry of Health officials announced that diabetes is spreading in Kuwait by 25%, which is a worrying factor according to statistics and studies, stressing on the need to improve lifestyle and develop a healthy nutrition program.
This came during the awareness event organized by the Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit at Farwaniya Hospital Sunday, on the occasion of the approaching month of Ramadan, under the slogan ‘Your sugar is fine in the month of goodness’, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The head of the Kuwaiti Diabetes Association, a consultant for diabetes and endocrinology at Mubarak Hospital, and director of the endocrinology fellowship program in Kuwait, Dr. Walid Al-Dhahi, said fasting during the month of Ramadan in general improves diabetes, and most patients are able to fast except in certain cases, including those who suffer from frequent hypoglycemia during the three months before Ramadan and other chronic diseases, such as the heart, eyes, nerves and liver, as well as patients with type 1 diabetes and pregnant women with diabetes.
