The Public Relations and Media Department of the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD) stated that the firefighting teams dealt with 147 reports during Friday rains in various governorates and rescued 211 people who were trapped in their vehicles without any reports of injuries.

The department said that the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled was following up on the reports under the direct supervision of the Chief of the General Fire Brigade, Lieutenant-General Khaled Al-Makrad, and the Deputy Head of the Combat Sector, Major General Jamal Badr Nasser, reports a local Arabic daily.

The administration explained the most important reports were concentrated in some tunnels and roads in which large quantities of rainwater had accumulated, and the firefighting forces dealt with them through advanced hydraulic suction pumps and reopened them again in cooperation with the relevant state ministries.

The teams also dealt with rainwater collection in the basements of some houses, and a number of people who were trapped in their vehicles were rescued, in addition to vehicle collisions, fires at power transformers and ground cables, and trees that were uprooted by high velocity winds.

Most of the reports came from the governorates of Jahra, Farwaniya, Al-Asimah and Hawalli.
