After struggling for a year and a half due to travel restrictions imposed and the presence of a global pandemic, the problems of Kuwait International Airport (KIA) have not ended. The new decision of the Council of Ministers to prevent unvaccinated citizens from traveling slashed about a third of the number of departures from the Airport, Al-Rai daily reported.

Returning to the departure movement, Mansour Al-Hashimi, Director of Operations at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, told the daily that 63 flights departed on 20  and 21 of this month, with 6136 passengers on board, indicating that after the implementation of the decision on 22 and 23 of this month the number of departing flights decreased to 47, with 4,138 passengers on board

As for arrival, the number of flights decreased from 62 with 1900 passengers on board on 20 and 21 of this month, to 44 with only 1,410 passengers on 22 and 23.

Al-Hashemi said that, despite the crisis of the Coronavirus pandemic, which caused the cancellation of many flights and reservations, with strict health requirements for some countries, this did not prevent those wishing to spend the vacation outside the country.

He explained that DGCA  is keen to implement the decisions and circulars of the Council of Ministers and follow the procedures of the health authorities that are in the interest of everyone, and that Kuwait Airport is still operating at 10 percent capacity, and that all flights are only available to citizens and their first-degree relatives.

As for residents, they are prohibited from entering the country, except for the categories that are excluded by the Corona Emergency Committee, which allows all medical personnel and workers in oil, Kuwait oil companies, the judiciary, fatwa, and legislation.
