The deadline for amending the residency status for violators of the residency law was extended to March 2, under a new decision by Minister of Interior of Kuwait Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali Al-Sabah.

The decision aims to make it easier for residency law violators to take action to become legal in view of the exceptional circumstances impacting the country from the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and the consequent disruption of flights. In addition, the suspension and reduced business in many sectors of the labor market, and the closure of the Public Authority for Manpower for a period of more than two weeks, where visitors couldn’t get their visa renewed and were subjected to fines.

The second article of the decision stipulates that whoever violates the expat residency law during the period mentioned in Article No. (1) of this decision, and who failed to amend his status will be open to the legally prescribed penalties, and he will not be authorized to continue to reside in Kuwait and will be deported from the country and forbidden from returning for they will be blacklisted.

The new extension allows more time for residency law violators to rectify their situation under the new deadline, and such expats are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to avoid penalties and measures that the Ministry of Interior will take after the new deadline expires.
