The head of the Federation of Fresh Dairy Producers, Abdul Hakim Al-Ahmad, said about 46 productive farms face closure within a short time, unless the government addresses the current situation by increasing support for Sulaibiya farms.

Al-Ahmad said “two farms actually closed their doors, after their financial situation took for the worse as a result of losses due to the increase in the cost of producing milk and their products, in return for the poor financial returns for them.”

Al-Ahmad told a local Arabic daily, that most dairy farms have financial obligations towards the “alfalfa and hay” feed traders, noting that the value of selling milk to factories, the lack of government support, and the farmer’s expenses from labor wages and the cost of feed “are important factors that affected the farms, especially since the cost of production has doubled compared to the period before the Corona pandemic, so the current income from production does not even cover their expenses.”
