Governments around the world announced their daily coronavirus updates on Saturday as they continue to battle the impacts of the deadly pandemic. Saudi Arabia’s daily confirmed coronavirus cases jumped by 1,144 as related deaths rose by 16, the health ministry said. The death toll now stands at 7,440 as confirmed cases hit 456,562, ministry data showed, while the number of recoveries increased by 1,253 to 439,459.

The UAE recorded five virus-related deaths and 2,188 cases during the past 24 hours. Total infections rose to 581,197 while deaths grew to a total of 1,696, the Ministry of Health said. The number of people who were cured of the virus also went up to reach 560,734 after 2,150 were recorded, it added.

Qatar’s confirmed coronavirus infections increased by 192 to raise the Gulf state’s caseload to 218,455, health ministry data showed. Virus-induced deaths increased by one to 566, according to the figures. Meanwhile, some 325 more people were cured of the virus over the past 24 hours, pushing the total up to 214,950.

In Iraq, deaths increased by 30 as the daily confirmed cases rose by 3,154, the health ministry said. This brings the caseload across the country, including the Kurdistan Region, to over 1.22 million as the death toll hit 16,518, a ministry statement read. On the other hand, a total of over 1.13 million people were cured of the virus.

Jordan identified 304 daily confirmed coronavirus cases, raising the kingdom’s cumulative total to around 739,000. Meanwhile, some seven virus-induced fatalities took the death toll up to 9,516, the country’s health ministry said in a statement. Around 720,000 people have so far been cured after the ministry reported a further 840.

Iran recorded 6,442 daily confirmed coronavirus cases and 128 deaths in the past 24 hours, health authorities said. The new figures raise the total number of cases to over 2.96 million and deaths to 80,941, the health ministry said, adding that recoveries from the virus have risen to a total of over 2.53 million.

Britain’s coronavirus victims increased by 13 as the total number of people to have succumbed to the disease reached 127,836 in the past 24 hours. Cases climbed by 5,765 to over 4.51 million, according to the Department of Health. Some 40.12 million Britons have received an initial COVID-19 vaccine shot while 27.16 million were given two jabs of the preventive shots. The Netherlands reported 2,160 new coronavirus cases upping the total number to over 1.66 million. Another nine people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, according to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, raising the death toll to 17,675.
