Customs men at the Shuwaikh port managed to thwart the smuggling of a large amount of alcohol bottles into the country, which was hidden in a container coming from a Gulf country.
The 40-foot container arrived at the Shuwaikh port and the customs officers after suspecting the cargo used a state-of-the-art device and after it was confirmed that it contained alcohol, allowed the container to leave the port area and put it under surveillance until it reached its destination.
Immediately, the Department of Customs Research and Investigation was instructed about the issue and in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Ministry of Interior a team was formed and the suspects were caught red-handed while emptying the cargo at the importing company’s warehouse.
The cargo and the suspects have been referred for investigation.
