The General Administration of Customs has denounced the reports circulating on social media that a fine of KWD 110 is collected by a shipping agent “on behalf of the customs”. The circular which was published by the shipping company indicated that such fine was accumulated from any modification of the customs receipt permission. Officials have spoken that the circular was incorrect and shall cost the shipping company some financial penalties. It was noted that the General Administration of Customs applies the unified customs law for the GCC states, and if required, the customs itself is the party in charge of collecting the fines.

The General Administration of Customs has warned against spreading false and distorted information and allegations marred with prejudice against the employees of the administration, which could result to irreparable damage to the economy. Officials are also set to take legal actions against violators.
