Kuwait is now experiencing a resurgence in the number of cases, leaving authorities grappling with how to curb the virus. The government is now strengthening regulations around mask-wearing, limiting the number of people that can gather in public spaces, and honing in on areas with particularly high numbers of cases.

Today, Kuwait experienced a record high number of new coronavirus cases, a total of 844 tested positive for the virus reaching a total of 112,737, and a total of 672 deaths due to the infection.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad stated to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the number of people receiving medical care in intensive care departments has reached 143 cases, raising the total of all cases confirmed to have (Covid-19) disease and are still receiving the necessary medical care to 7557 cases.

But this time unlike March, the Ministry of Health broadly and increasingly agree, that another months long generalized lockdown against a disease whose transmission is now much better understood is not the solution.

The Council of Ministers approved an amendment to the bill for imposing immediate fines on violators of health regulations and methods to pay these fines. The bill will be submitted to His Highness the Amir for a referral to the National Assembly.

Several decisions were also made in their weekly session held on Monday at Sief Palace under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Among them was to assign the Ministry of Information (MoI) to intensify and develop media messages on health requirements to spread awareness and reinforce discipline for observing health regulations. Second, introducing appointments for dining in restaurants and cafes, and visiting sports clubs to avoid crowding. Third, camps and temporary tents will not be allowed in residential areas and chalets. Fourth, assigning the main committee to follow up on the implementation of health requirements related to combating the coronavirus, and to develop its working methods and intensify its efforts in line with the increasing cases and the high infection indicators.
