Despite unprecedented world efforts to overcome it and its fallout, the novel coronavirus, known as Covid-19, has now infected almost three million people in at least 183 countries and territories.

The world continues to report horribly spiking numbers of fatalities and infections with the contagious disease, which appears to be still far from the end.

Starting from Qatar, the Ministry of Health on Monday reported 957 additional infections with the Covid-19, with a total of 54 recoveries.
Now, the total number of cases in this Gulf country stands at 11,244, mostly expat workers, the ministry said in a statement.

Oman reported 51 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the Sultanate’s count to 2,049.

The new cases included 37 Omani citizens and 14 non-Omanis, the Ministry of Health said, adding that out of the overall infections, a total of 364 patients have been cured of the virus, with 10 fatalities.

Still in the Arab world, Lebanese health authorities announced that the number of infections with the deadly bud has risen by three to 710, with a total 145 recoveries.

Iran’s Ministry of Health recorded 991 more cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest daily rally in 36 days.

Thus, the total number of confirmed infections with the Covid-19 in Iran is now 91,472, with deaths totaling 5,806, it added.

In Norway, 28 new coronavirus cases were reported in Norway Monday, according to figures released by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has increased to 7,533 in the country, it announced in a statement. The death toll from coronavirus remains at 193, same as yesterday, it added.

A total of 211 people confirmed coronavirus have been treated in intensive care units, of these, 55 are inpatients.

In Japan, the number of new coronavirus infections rose by 192 to 13,531 over the last 24 hours as of 4:00 pm (0700 GMT) on Monday, excluding 712 people who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship, the authorities said.

The death toll climbed by 20 to 381, excluding 13 from the cruise ship that was quarantined near Tokyo in February, according to the health ministry and local governments. Tokyo reported 39 additional infections, falling below 100 for the second straight day, which brought the cumulative number of infection cases in the Japanese capital to 3,947.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday that Japan will expand an entry ban on travelers from 14 countries, including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Russia, to enhance its border controls amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Foreigners who have stayed in those 14 countries in the past two weeks will be denied entry, Abe said at a meeting of the government’s task force on the coronavirus response, adding that the measure will be effective from Wednesday.

Together with 73 other countries, such as the US, China, South Korea and most of Europe, that have been already on the list, Japan’s entry ban will cover 87 countries and territories.

Belgium announced 113 deaths from coronavirus on Monday, down from 178 yesterday. The total death toll has now reached to 7,207, the Belgian health ministry announced in a press statement today.

Some 553 more cases of coronavirus have been reported in the past 24 hours, down from 809 yesterday, raising the total to 46,687, the ministry said in a press statement.

A total 127 new hospitalizations have been recorded and 93 people have left the hospital in the last 24 hours.

A total of 3,968 people are currently hospitalized. Among them, 903 are in intensive care and 600 patients are on respiratory assistance.

In Russia, the number of fatalities has reached 797, while infections spiked by 6,198 to 87,147. Moving to Europe, Austria announced seven new deaths due to the highly contagious disease, bringing the death toll to 549, while cases moved up by 56 to 15,190.

In Germany, the tally of fatalities shot up by 110 to 5,750, while infections edged up by 1,018 to 155,193.

In Netherlands, 43 more coronavirus deaths were reported in the Netherlands on Monday, down from 66 yesterday.

The total death toll from coronavirus rose to 4,518, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment announced today.
Some 400 more people have tested positive for coronavirus, down from 655 yesterday, raising the total number of infections to 38,245, it added.

A total 65 coronavirus patients have been admitted to hospitals, down from 75 yesterday, raising the total number to 10,521.

Indonesia on Monday confirmed 217 more cases of the novel coronavirus and 22 new fatalities, taking the count to 9,096 and 765 respectively.

Finally, the Philippines Ministry of Health said the number of cases went up 198 to 7,777 in the last 24 hours, with deaths rose by 10 to 511.
