Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday that COVID-19 has claimed 3,303 lives in the country so far while the number of virus-infected people rose to 106,750.

The Health Ministry said in its morning update that the deadly virus claimed 140 more lives in the last 24 hours taking the COVID related death toll to 3,303 as 5,611 fresh positive cases were reported taking the total number of infections to 106,750. So far, 42,298 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered.

Maharashtra is considered the worst-hit Indian state with 1,325 deaths and 37,136 positive cases followed by Gujarat with 719 deaths and 12,140 positive cases as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states.

India extended its lockdown for another two weeks to curb the spread of deadly coronavirus in the country. The lockdown shall continue to remain in force until May 31 with several relaxations in the non-affected areas.
