Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has claimed 134 more lives and infected 4,970 people in the last 24 hours as the positive cases crossed a hundred thousand mark.

The Health Ministry said in its morning update that COVID-19 death toll rose to 3,163 people with 134 new deaths while there were 4,970 positive cases in one day taking the total number of infections to 101,139.

So far, 39,174 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered. Maharashtra is considered the worst hit state with 1,249 deaths and 35,058 positive cases followed by Gujarat with 694 deaths and 11,745 positive cases as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states.

Indian government announced two days back its decision to extend the lockdown for another two weeks to curb the spread of deadly coronavirus in the country.

The lockdown shall continue to remain in force until May 31 with several relaxations in the non affected areas. Certain services and activities including domestic and international air travel, metro rail services and schools, colleges and educational institutions will remain closed in addition to hospitality services, cinema halls, shopping malls, parks, theaters, bars and auditoriums.
