The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported Wednesday 125 new novel coronavirus virus fatalities, raising the death toll up to 1,694.
In a press statement, the health ministry also announced that 2,958 people have tested positive in the past 24 hours, taking the total number up to 49,391.
So far, 14,183 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered, it noted.
India is in its third phase of lockdown in which various regions have been divided into red, orange and green zones taking into account the severity of the infection.
Areas not affected by the coronavirus will enjoy some relaxation while there are several restrictions that would be strictly implemented across the nation.
