Research published by Oxford University said, Monday, that the Corona pandemic led to a decline in life expectancy in 2020 by the largest margin since World War II. The life expectancy of American men decreased by more than two years, Al Qabas reported.

Average life expectancy decreased by more than six months compared to 2019 in 22 out of 29 countries analyzed by the study that included Europe, the United States, and Chile. In general, there was a decrease in life expectancy in 27 out of 29 countries.

The university said that most of the declines in life expectancy in various countries can be attributed to official deaths resulting from Covid-19.

The largest decrease in life expectancy for men compared to women occurred in most countries, while the largest decrease was in American men, for whom the life expectancy decreased by 2.2 years compared to 2019.

In the United States, the increase in the death rate was concentrated among those of working age and those under the age of 60, while in Europe, deaths among those over the age of 60 had a greater role in the rise in the death rate.
