The precautionary measures imposed by the health authorities during 2021 caused a decline in chocolate consumption in Kuwait by 41%, after Kuwait was at the forefront of chocolate consuming countries in the region, at a rate of 3 kilograms per person annually.
The is because 2021 witnessed the closure of many activities and events that were a great outlet for consuming chocolate, such as weddings, receptions and various other social events, says a local Arabic daily.
Official figures showed Kuwait’s total imports of chocolate during the last nine months of 2021 was 23.5 million dinars, compared to imports worth 40 million dinars in the corresponding period of 2020.
It is expected that the consumption rate will return to normal during the coming period, especially with the return of normal life again and the lifting of restrictions which were imposed for months on many social activities to contain the spread of the pandemic.
