Local banks, in coordination with the Central Bank and with support from the shared electronic banking services company, Knet, have decided to raise the limit of ‘contactless payments’ at Point of Sale’ (POS) to KD25 from the earlier KD10.

Customers can pay from their bank accounts, without the need to pass their cards on POS devices, such as those found at retail check-out points and elsewhere in the country, without entering their secret numbers, for up to KD25 per transaction.

The step has been taken as part of the precautionary measures initiated by banks in view of the spread of the new coronavirus globally, and to ensure it does not spread in Kuwait, while at the same time providing customers with access to all necessary services.

Banks explained that the new ‘contactless’ technology also reduces the transaction time, limits the transfer of the card from one person to another and avoids having to wait for long in queues in close proximity to others.
