Following the recent seizure of a substantial amount of adulterated meat and fish, inspectors from the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have taken action to confiscate over 1.5 tons of adulterated cheese.

Additionally, they seized thousands of labels intended for use by a company based in Hawalli with a warehouse in Shuwaikh, prepared for sale to various outlets.

Sources informed Al-Rai that the company had been altering the expiry dates on its products, changing them from expired to valid. This serious violation prompted the immediate closure of the company’s headquarters and stores, and the individuals responsible have been referred to the authorities for prosecution.

Further details from the sources revealed, “During the inspection at the company’s warehouse, inspectors discovered a variety types of cheese.

The violator had removed the original expiration dates and replaced them with new ones valid for a year, commencing from November 2023 to November 2024. Inspectors also uncovered a machine used for grinding, cutting, and packaging the cheese.” The grated cheese was prepared and sold after the old, expired cheese bags were removed. The new labels concealed the expired or soon-to-expire dates with fresh stickers extending the expiration date by a year.

The sources emphasized that the quantities of adulterated food recently seized are prompting trade authorities to intensify field inspections to safeguard consumer health and rights.

Control measures in the current period encompass all sectors, and there are plans to increase the number of inspection campaigns and their coverage.
