It has been agreed in principle to form a joint committee comprising men from the Public Authority for Manpower, the Public Authority for Industry, the Environment Public Authority and the Directorate-General of Fire department, whose task will be to inspect the factories.

A local Arabic daily said the task of the committee is to look at the safety of workers from the health or occupational point of view as well as increasing safety procedures for factories.

There is a proposal to establish a four-way platform, or what is known as the single window, to be the supervisory meeting point between the four parties, explaining that “this will be accompanied by the formation of a joint committee, to inspect occupational and health safety at the same time, and then avoid overlapping jurisdictions as is happening at the moment.”

The sources stated “it was agreed to solicit the views of the concerned authorities, in preparation for submitting recommendations to the Council of Ministers, to issue a decision authorizing a joint government-industrial inspection committee in this regard.”
