The medical and technical teams are closely following the latest developments in Coronavirus and vaccine research, as well as checking on updates of the vaccines and their recipients, informed sources in the Ministry of Health confirmed to Al Qabas daily.

The sources revealed that the ministry is studying giving Pfizer vaccines to children between the ages 12 to 15 years soon, just as it was reported that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its approval to authorize the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the aforementioned age group.

However, the priority is the elderly, and people with special needs, chronic diseases and risk factors, as well as those eligible for the available quantities of the vaccine.

The sources reiterated that the epidemiological situation has shown positive indicators in the country, after the recovery rate from the virus the day before yesterday reached 94.2 percent, compared to the number of infections recorded daily, after it was 93.3 percent at the beginning of April, 93.8 percent in early March, 95.6 percent in early February, 97.3 percent at the beginning of this year, and 96.2 percent in early December 2020.

The sources highlighted the importance of avoiding gatherings and contact in public places to ensure the virus is not contracted and transmitted to family members.

The source highlighted the importance for those who have not taken the initiative to register on the COVID-19 vaccination platform for vaccinations, as the recent figures indicate that those patients in ICUs are those who did not receive the two vaccine doses. It noted that the vaccines reduce infection rates significantly, as well as plays a role in reducing deaths due to complications from the virus. Getting vaccinated also helps the ministry to remove the restrictions caused by the repercussions of the pandemic for the country to return to normal life.
