The Competition Protection Authority, which is under the supervision of the Minister of Commerce, is currently looking into the files and conditions of poultry companies contracting with the cooperatives sector after the chicken scarcity crisis that occurred about two months ago, noting that the authority aims to protect the freedom of competition and at the same time prevent monopolistic practices in various forms, which affect the freedom to exercise economic activity, the freedom of choice for the consumer and the pluralism of economic parties that were deprived of it during this crisis.

A source said that the agency has begun calling the owners of the companies to find out the real reasons behind this crisis during the last period, which was accompanied by great grumbling by consumers who were deprived for two months of not receiving their monthly entitlement from some subsidized foodstuffs, adding that it was noticed during the period of chicken scarcity the availability of types of food in other markets, but at high prices, unlike the previous price, which was before the crisis, which makes the situation more complicated, reports a local Arabic daily.

The source stated that what is available in the stores of these companies will be checked a month before the crisis and match with the current situation, after which the company causing the crisis will be referred to the competent authorities, and strict measures will be taken against anyone who is proven to have deliberately committed the crisis, while preventing him from supplying his products to branches and the application of the law to them for violating the terms of the contract, which stipulates the imposition of penalties against any party who violates the terms.
